Time is Passing

Dear Rotarians,

As we close the first month of this Rotary year, which began on July 1, my heart is filled with gratitude for a remarkable start.
We began with a prayer session, placing all our endeavours in God’s hands. That moment of reflection set the tone for a year dedicated to service, fellowship, and growth.

Our installation ceremony was truly memorable, graced by distinguished dignitaries, government officials, traditional rulers, and Rotarians from many districts. The high point was conferring the title of Grand Polio Ambassador on the legendary King Sunny Ade, the King of African Beats, and honouring him with the Rotary Vocational Excellence Award.

This historic event not only celebrated a worthy partnership but also reaffirmed our commitment to eradicating polio and promoting vocational excellence.
I sincerely appreciate the committee that made this event such a resounding success, ably led by Past President Sola Akinsiku of the Rotary Club of Ikeja. Their dedication exemplifies the true Rotary spirit, and I pray that the Lord rewards their labour of love.

To our Rotary leaders and all Rotarians, I extend my heartfelt appreciation for your unwavering support. Your energy, passion, and commitment are the driving forces behind our progress.

My official visits to clubs have been deeply rewarding, and I commend the impactful projects that have been commissioned during these visits. These efforts clearly demonstrate our shared mission of service to humanity.

Looking ahead, our key focus areas this year are membership growth and support for our foundation. I urge us all to embrace the “One Bring One” initiative - let each Rotarian commit to introducing at least one new member to Rotary. Remember, every member matters, and every contribution counts.

Equally, let’s support our foundation with generous donations and encourage friends to do the same. Our innovative Polio Teddy Bear Initiative continues to raise funds for polio eradication in a fun and meaningful way. Don’t miss your chance to own one of these adorable bears by making a donation.

August is Membership Month, and I challenge every Rotarian to bring in at least one new member. Those who rise to this challenge will be recognized with a Presidential Message lapel pin and a certificate of recognition at our September quarterly meeting. What a wonderful way to share the Rotary experience and strengthen our district.

Furthermore, from August 17th-24th we would be hosting our foremost grooming and mentorship programme, the Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA).

I encourage Rotarians, Clubs as well as corporate bodies to support and attend what promises to be another exciting and life-touching experience.
As our timeless motto reminds us, “Service Above Self.” Let us unite, strengthen our district, and work together to make a lasting impact in our communities and beyond.

Thank you for your dedication, your passion, and your service. Together, let’s serve with purpose and inspire many more to join us on this noble journey.
Let's Unite for Good.

Prince Henry Akinyele,
District Governor,
Rotary International, District 9111
