…and we arrive at the final month of the Rotary Year
A Year of Impact, A Legacy of Service
Dear Rotarians, Rotaractors, and Friends of Rotary,
As we arrive at the final month of the Rotary year, I write with a heart overflowing with gratitude, pride, and hope.
June marks not only the conclusion of my tenure as your District Governor but also an opportunity to reflect on an extraordinary journey of service, fellowship, leadership, and impact.
Serving as District Governor has been one of the greatest privileges of my Rotary life. The experiences, friendships, and lessons gained throughout this year will remain cherished memories. More importantly, the collective achievements of our district have demonstrated the immense power of Rotary when committed people unite around a common purpose.
Reflecting on an Extraordinary Year
Over the past eleven months, our district has continued to advance Rotary's mission through meaningful service projects, leadership development, membership growth, youth engagement, Foundation support, and public image initiatives.
Together, we have touched lives, transformed communities, and strengthened our position as a force for good.
As we approach the close of this remarkable Rotary year, we look back with gratitude to God and pride in what we have collectively accomplished as a district.
Together, we have witnessed significant growth and impact. We successfully chartered nine (9) new Rotary Clubs, with two additional clubs expected before the end of the Rotary year, our engagement and attraction have been impressive, resulting in a net membership gain of 326 members as of today.
We also expanded our youth and young professional reach through the formation of eight (8) new Rotaract Clubs and twenty Interact Clubs, further strengthening the future of Rotary in our district.
Our commitment to The Rotary Foundation remained steadfast, with contributions reaching an impressive $315,000 to date. Equally encouraging was the unprecedented participation of our clubs in Foundation programmes, as thirty-five Rotary Clubs and nine Rotaract Clubs benefited from District grants and many in End Polio activities, the highest level of participation ever recorded in our district.
One of the defining legacies of this administration, the Rotary District 9111 Peace Institute, is now nearing completion.
This landmark project, conceived as a beacon of peacebuilding, leadership, and conflict resolution, is expected to be commissioned before the close of the Rotary year. It stands as evidence of what can be achieved when Rotarians unite behind a shared vision.
Our investment in youth development also yielded remarkable results. Beyond the formation of new Rotaract and Interact Clubs, we deepened our commitment to mentoring and empowering young leaders.
We are particularly proud that Master Arnold Faranpojo is successfully concluding his Youth Exchange Programme in Germany, representing our district with distinction while fostering international understanding and goodwill.
In the area of Public Image, this Rotary year has brought our district unprecedented visibility and recognition.
Through strategic communication, effective storytelling, and consistent promotion of our service projects, Rotary District 9111 has achieved a level of public awareness that will continue to yield dividends for years to come.
While these accomplishments are worthy of celebration, our greatest achievement cannot be measured solely by statistics, projects, or financial contributions. The true measure of our success lies in the countless lives touched, the communities transformed, the opportunities created, and the hope restored through our collective service.
As we reflect on these modest yet significant achievements, we give all glory to Almighty God, whose grace, guidance, and favour have enabled us to serve humanity with purpose and impact. We remain humbled by what has been accomplished and inspired by the enduring Rotary spirit that makes service above self not merely a motto but a way of life.
A Remarkable Month of May
As fittingly expected of a vibrant district, May was filled with activities that reflected the strength of our fellowship, international partnerships, and commitment to service.
Across the district, clubs continued to execute impactful community projects addressing critical needs in health, education, economic empowerment, environmental sustainability, and community development. These projects once again demonstrated Rotary's enduring commitment to Service Above Self.
We were delighted to welcome the Friendship Exchange Team from District 7080, Canada, led by District Governor-Elect Uche Okugo. Their visit strengthened international understanding, fostered new friendships, and reinforced the global nature of Rotary fellowship. We thank our Canadian friends for sharing in our culture, service activities, and Rotary experiences.
Our district was also honoured to host, Dr. Ing. Kwame Baah-Acheamfuo, District 9104 Public Image and Media Relations Chair and Deputy Editor of the Zone 22 Region 27 Public Image Monthly Magazine. His participation in Rotaract panel discussion provided valuable insights into how our district can improve the growth and development of our generation next...Rotaract
Adding to the spirit of international fellowship, Rotarians from District 3750, South Korea, led by District Governor Moon Kang, visited Rotary Club of Maryland and by extension the district as part of a Friendship Exchange initiative. Such engagements continue to build bridges of understanding and collaboration across cultures and continents.
As preparations culminated for our district's flagship event, we were honoured to receive Rotary International President's Representative, Past District Governor Francisco Ssemwanga of the Rotary Club of Nateete-Kampala, Uganda, accompanied by his spouse, Mrs. Angella Ssemwanga. Their presence added immense prestige and inspiration to our celebrations.
The highlight of the month was undoubtedly the successful hosting of the Royal District Conference and Assembly (DisCon) 2026, a gathering that showcased the vibrancy, achievements, and diversity of our district. The conference provided opportunities for learning, networking, celebration, and renewed commitment to Rotary's ideals.
A particularly memorable moment was the participation of all the above mentioned visiting Rotarians including Assistant Governor Abit Ragbeer, District 7230 Rotaract Chair and Assistant Membership Coordinator for Zone 32, alongside District Public Image Chair, Tasmain Warren, both first-time visitors to Africa. Their active participation in a polio vaccination exercise in Ikeja, Lagos, offered a powerful demonstration of Rotary's commitment to the eradication of polio worldwide.
Another significant milestone was the visit of Rotary International General Secretary John Hewko and spouse.
His presence reaffirmed the importance of our district within the Rotary world and provided encouragement as we continue our efforts to increase Rotary's impact and reach.
We also had the privilege of paying a courtesy visit to the Head of Mission, Taipei Trade Office in Lagos, Nigeria, Rotarian Andy Yih-Ping Liu, such engagements continue to strengthen strategic relationships and create opportunities for future collaboration and service.
Gratitude to Those Who Made the Journey Possible
No District Governor serves alone.
I wish to express my deepest appreciation to our Past District Governors whose wisdom and counsel guided us throughout the year. I thank the future Governors as well for their consistent support.
To my Core Team, the District Leadership Team, Zonal Coordinators, Assistant Governors, District Officers, Committee Chairs, Club Presidents, Secretaries, District Staff and every Rotarian who willingly accepted responsibilities and delivered results, thank you for your dedication and support.
To our Rotaractors, Interactors, Rotakids, Rotary Community Corps members, and Rotarians from our sister district, 9112, thank you for bringing energy, innovation, and inspiration to our district.
To our partners, sponsors, and friends of Rotary, your collaboration has amplified our impact and expanded our reach.
To my family, particularly my darling wife, Nihinlolawa and the children, thank you for your sacrifices, encouragement, and understanding throughout this demanding yet rewarding year. Your sacrifices are well appreciated.
Lessons from the Journey
As I reflect on this year, I am reminded that Rotary's greatest strength is not found in our structures, programmes, or resources. It is found in our people.
I have witnessed extraordinary acts of kindness, generosity, resilience, and leadership. I have seen Rotarians step forward to address challenges, support one another, and serve communities without seeking recognition.
These experiences have reinforced my belief that when people of goodwill come together with a shared purpose, there is virtually no limit to the positive change they can create.
Passing the Baton
As one chapter closes, another begins.
I extend my warmest congratulations to the Incoming District Governor, Rotarian Bukola Bakare and the incoming district leadership team.
I am confident that under their leadership, our district will continue to grow stronger, achieve greater impact, and reach new heights of service excellence.
I encourage every member to extend to the incoming leadership the same support, cooperation, and commitment that you generously gave to me throughout this year.
The Journey Continues
While my term as District Governor comes to an end, Rotary's mission continues.
The challenges facing our communities remain significant, but so too are the opportunities before us. Together, we must continue to grow our membership, strengthen our Foundation, empower our youth, enhance our public image, and expand our humanitarian impact. Let us continue to dream boldly, serve passionately, and lead with integrity.
Farewell
As I conclude this final monthly message, I do so with profound gratitude and immense pride.
Thank you for allowing me the privilege of serving as your District Governor. Thank you for your friendship, your love, your trust, and your commitment to Rotary's ideals.
The achievements of this year belong not to one individual but to every member of our district. Together, we have demonstrated what is possible when service, fellowship, and leadership unite for a common cause.
Though my tenure concludes, my commitment to Rotary remains as long as I live. I look forward to continuing this journey alongside you as we work together to create hope, transform lives, and make an enduring difference in the world.
May Rotary continue to inspire us, unite us, and guide us as we Unite for Good to Create Lasting Impact.
Yours in Rotary Service,
Rtn. Prince Henry Olubowale Ajibike Akinyele
District Governor, 2025–2026
