On Saturday, July 11, 2026, the Balmoral Convention Centre, Ikeja, Lagos, came alive as hundreds of Rotarians, family members, friends, and distinguished guests gathered to witness the historic installation of Rtn. Bukola Bakare as the District Governor of Rotary International District 9111.
 
 
Elegantly decorated for the grand occasion, the venue reflected the significance of the moment as the district welcomed its third District Governor and first female District Governor.
 
The highlight of the ceremony was the arrival of Rtn. Bukola Bakare, who radiantly stepped into the venue alongside her spouse, Alhaji Lateef Bakare, a fellow Rotarian and member of Rotary Club of Ikeja GRA. Rtn. Bakare also holds the distinction of being the first female President of Rotary Club of Ikeja GRA, making her installation another landmark achievement in Rotary’s history.
 
She was officially installed by Rtn Olayinka Babalola, who made history as the second African and second Nigerian to serve as Rotary International President.
 
The new District Governor was surrounded by an impressive assembly of past, serving, and incoming District Governors from Rotary Districts 9111, 9112, and other districts across Nigeria, led by Prince Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi, the Doyen of the District Governors. The ceremony attracted an array of eminent personalities from across the country. Chairman of the Occasion, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, leader of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, was represented by Senator Wasiu Eshinlokun.
 
The Royal Father of the Day was His Imperial Majesty, Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Owa Obokun and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland.
Other distinguished dignitaries in attendance included HRM, Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, CON, Abisogun II The Oniru of Iruland; Executive Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency, Mr Babajide Sanwoolu and the Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat represented by Rtn. Dr Olayinka and Rtn Adio Moses; as well as His Excellency Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.
 
 
Family members of the newly installed District Governor were also present to celebrate the milestone, alongside dignitaries from First Bank district leaders, club presidents, Rotarians, the District 9111 Rotaract Representative, Rtr. David Olagunju, and Rotaractors from Rotary districts across Nigeria.
 
The installation marked the beginning of a new chapter for Rotary International District 9111, with Rtn. Bukola Bakare assuming leadership as the district’s first female governor and reaffirming Rotary’s commitment to service, leadership, inclusion, and creating lasting impact in communities.
