Rotary Club of Ikeja GRA in collaboration with three other Rotary Clubs in the district on Thursday, September 4, 2025 commissioned fully renovated and furnished library in State Senior High School in Ikeja, Lagos.
 
 
The school library renovation and furnishing project which was initiated by the president, Rotary Club of Ikeja GRA, Rtn. Abigail Akano was jointly carried out by Rotary Club of Ikeja GRA,  rotary Club of Akowonjo led by Rtn. David Amowie, Rotary Club of Maryland led by Rtn. Bidemi Bello Maruf, and Rotary Club of Adeniyi Jones led by Rtn. Yetunde Ogunyankin.
 
The Rotary Club of Ikeja GRA president who revealed how the project came about while giving kudos to her Club Service Project Chairperson, Rtn Sandra stated that she met the library in a very deteriorated state when she visited the school for needs assessment and this further fueled her passion for the project. 

 
She then informed the other collaborating club presidents, and they also keyed into the projects. Three weeks ago, the project just like a dream became a reality.
 
The newly renovated library was formally commissioned by the District Governor, Rotary International District 9111, Rtn. (Prince) Henry Akinyele who was on his official visit to Rotary Club of Ikeja GRA. 
 
The DG in his remarks revealed in his remarks that having been a Library Prefect back in his secondary school days, he understands that “a school library is not just a place where books are collected but also a place to inspire reading."
 
 
Speaking further, he said, "This also shows the commitment pf Rotary. Rotary is so committed to impacting our society positively and improving the society."
 
"This is the power of collaboration", he said while commending the four Rotary club presidents involved in the collaboration for carrying out his charge to clubs to come together and execute bigger and bolder projects.
 
The School Principal, Mrs Longe Folake appreciated the Rotary club saying, "This intervention is a very laudable program that will make a great impact in the life of our students. We are grateful immensely."
 
 
The Tutor General, Education District Six, Oshodi, Mrs Christiana Mojisola Yusuf on her part stated that the library will help the huge population of indigent students in the school who only have the time to study while they are in the school premises because after school, they get busy with house chores and supporting their families with making ends meet.
 
"I know the students' results will be better than what it is this year with this library", she said.
Present was the District Governor Elect, Rtn. Bukola Bakare who is also a member of Rotary Club of Ikeja GRA, The Vice President of Rotary Club of Maryland Rtn. Grace Bamigboye who represented the President, and the Vice President of Rotary Club of Adeniyi Jones, Rtn. Wealth Emelieze who also represented the club president.
 
 
Also present were district leaders and Rotarians.
