Rotary International District 9111 under the leadership of the pioneer District Governor, Dr Oluwole Kukoyi has just awarded N4million scholarships to 20 indigent but brilliant students in Lagos and Ogun states.

The annual scholarship program which is labeled District Education and Welfare Endowment Fund (DEWEF) started in 1991-1992 Rotary year by the then late District 9110 Governor Adekunle Kukoyi. Since then, the fund has grown over the years with annual contributions from Rotarians until District 9110 was divided into Districts 9111 and 9112 on July 1, 2024.
 
The District Governor in his remarks revealed that the number of benefiting from the program this Rotary year was increased by the board from the unit target of 15 to 20 and the amount awarded to each person increased from 100,000 which was awarded during the previous Rotary years to N200,000 for each candidate.
 
 
“The interest of the students is of outmost importance to us. From time to time, we will continue to review the scholarship scheme and see ways we can improve on”, District Governor Oluwole Kukoyi said. He urged the students to ensure they maintain their high score so as not to be screened out of the program while also urging them to associate with Rotary Club by joining any Rotaract club.
 
 
Also present was the Chairman of DEWEF Board of Trustees, Past District Governor Somo Omoniyi, the Chairman of District DEWEF Committee, Past Assistant Governor Alaba Olalekan. Members of the DG’s core team, other members of the DEWEF Board and members of the DEWEF Committee were also present along with some Irresistible Presidents who were present to support their candidates.
 
The overall best candidate, Peace Opemipo, a student of College of Medicine, University of Lagos appreciated the Rotarians on behalf of all the beneficiaries.
