The pioneer District Governor, Rotary International District 9111, Rtn (Dr) Oluwole Kukoyi has just launched Women in Rotary.
The launch which held on Wednesday, October 16 at the Rotary Centre in Ikeja, Lagos also served as an avenue to celebrate 2024 International Day of the Girl Child.
DG Kukoyi while delivering his address described the occasion as a “momentous” one saying, “This significant milestone marks a new chapter in the commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion within our district”, he said.
“We recognize the transformative power of women’s leadership and the valuable contribution women have made to our Rotary family”, DG Kukoyi further said while congratulating Past District Governor Omotunde Lawson, FCAI who was the first District Governor for the former Rotary International District 9110, for being the flagship of that history.
Addressing the women further, the DG said, “Your dedication, passion and selflessness have enhanced our community service projects, have fostered inclusive environment, and have also inspired future generations.” He called on all to “amplify women’s voices as we embark on the journey together”, adding that their voices are already being heard loud and clear in District 9111. “Let’s break all barrier to empower women to take up leadership role”, he said.
He concluded by reminding everyone present of what Rotary International President, Stephanie Urchick emphasized, “Diversity, equity and inclusion are essential to achieving our mission of a world where we unite and take action to create a lasting change.
“I am championing this initiative with the committee of Women in Rotary to demonstrate unwavering commitment to gender equality and inclusivity.” He also pledged support and empowerment for the growth of the women, equal opportunity and celebration of their achievements.
PDG Lawson however enlightened everyone present with her presentation on the ‘Brief History on Women in Rotary’ while the Keynote Speaker, PAG Olaitan Ojuroye who is also the Zonal Coordinator for Women in Rotary, Zone 1 made a powerful presentation on ‘Launching Women in Rotary District 9111’.
The Women in Rotary lapel pin was launched and financial contributions were raised to support the committee’s line up of activities for the Rotary year. Students of Christhill College, Festac, also thrilled everyone present with a beautiful choreography performance.
Present at the launch were Rotarians from across the shores of the Rotary district which covers Lagos and Ogun states and members of the Women in Rotary Committee as well as Zonal Coordinators from across the various zones in the district.
Also present was the District Governor Elect, Rtn Prince Henry Akinyele, the spouse of the District Governor, Rev Mrs Olusola Kukoyi, members of the District Governor’s core team, as well as the beautiful hostess, Rtn Oyinlola Sale, member of Rotary Club of Akowonjo.
